Hello friends! I have a short yin yoga video for you today.

Are you familiar with yin yoga?
If not, I highly encourage you to try it, maybe with this video – or others online and in studios.

Yin yoga is not like the yoga we mostly know in our culture. Most of the classes we see online or attend in studios are yang yoga – with flows and holding a shape for a brief time before moving to another shape.

Yin sequences are very different. Shapes are held for longer intervals. You meet a pose just at its edge and hold it for minutes, typically 1 1/2 – 4 minutes per shape. Once in the pose, you meet stillness.

Yin yoga is restorative. Holding a relaxed posture for a longer time, exerts positive stress on subtle
body tissues, thereby triggering the body’s natural repair response. This leads to stronger and more supple joints and ligaments.

Most yin classes in studios are 60 minutes long – or longer. These are quite blissful!
Sometimes, though, you want a little yin goodness in less time. A little yoga can do a lot of good!

Enter: 20 minute yin yoga
I hope you enjoy this short sequence, please share your experience!
Before I sign off, if you are in the local area, I’m teaching a FREE 45-minute yoga class this Sunday (22nd) at Lululemon Morgan Crossing. Bring a mat and a friend, class begins at 10am!

One final, final note: After my last yoga posts, I heard from some subscribers that did not want these yoga updates. I’m still trying to filter. Please no upset emails. 🙏

I started yoga and then stopped because I wanted something at a slower pace. I felt rushed and now I understand why. I didn’t know about yin and yang yoga variations. There are times when yang yoga is great, but there are also times when the slower pace is preferred. Thank you for explaining the two types.

Thanks for the feedback, Theresa. You’re not alone, and I feel many yoga studios (at least in recent years) have focused more on the flow and power yoga. Yin is becoming more present. Enjoy.
