“Dreena, is there such a thing as oil-free chocolate?”
This question has come up often through my work. I even added a reference in the FAQ section of Dreena’s Kind Kitchen to help direct people to a source for oil-free vegan chocolate.
I’m happy to answer “yes!” to this question. Before sharing details of this beautiful vegan chocolate from Nibble… first, a little context:
As many of you know, I moved into oil-free recipes after releasing let them eat vegan. My subsequent ebooks and two printed books (Plant-Powered Families and Dreena’s Kind Kitchen) contain oil-free recipes.
And, our family’s approach to eating oil-free isn’t absolute. I cook and bake oil-free, but our kids enjoy vegan cheeses and some other vegan convenience foods, and we will order in from a restaurant about once a week.
As such, I’m generally okay with purchasing a variety of brands of vegan chocolate – and especially chocolate chips for baking.
However, when I came across information about oil-free chocolate through a facebook forum, I was intrigued!
Nibble Vegan Chocolate
I learned that creates a chocolate that is made with organic fair-trade cacao beans and organic coconut sugar.
Nibble Chocolate is handcrafted in small batches from single origin cocoa beans in San Diego, California. Their classic line is made with just 2 ingredients, resulting in exquisite texture and flavors.
And, because there are no added oils in their classic line of vegan chocolate, it is considered an oil-free chocolate. (Note that the line of truffles has more than two ingredients and some added oil, but it’s minimal).
Now, we can get picky about how “whole foods” chocolate is. Technically, it’s processed. We aren’t eating the whole cacao bean. But, whole grain pasta is also processed and we can enjoy it in a whole foods vegan or plant-based diet.
So, this is certainly a healthier, not to mention beautiful chocolate for you to enjoy. Even more important than being an oil-free and palm oil-free chocolate, are fair trade, bean-to-bar, and organic.
When I first found the Nibble line, they had their classic line of bars and the Nibbleitos (I love that name).
Now they have introduced their line of truffles.
These vegan truffles are so exciting! As a chocolate devotee, I can not express fully the joy I experienced receiving (and sampling!) these spectacular chocolate truffles.
Or, maybe I can. Watch my video…

Thanks again for sharing. I have ordered already and am anxiously awaiting their arrival! Got a sampler of the classic bars and the flavored ones plus truffles. You probably already know it but Taza Chocolate also makes oil free chocolates with few ingredients in the form of their dark bars and discs. Chocolita is also a really good brand that also has truffles!
