I was so excited to read that your recipes don’t use a bunch of meat substitutes – what’s the point of not eating animal products if you use things that taste like them anyway?
I just ordered your book and can’t wait to get it in my hands! Thank you so much!!!
Dreena says
Oh thanks Jennifer!!! For us, we started eating vegan 15+ yrs ago, so none of those meat subs were out – so my cooking started without them, and continued that way. Hope you love LTEV!
Laura says
Hi Dreena. Thank you for being such a great cook and teacher of how to be a great cook. I recently turned vegan and needed some help in the kitchen. Your LTEV cookbook is like no other. The way you allow your readers to be the cook, and you the teacher and guide is amazing. Thanks for all the hard work you’ve put in to make delicious and nutritious food! My family and I thank you. -Laura
Dreena says
Laura, that really hits home for me. Thank you. When I write recipes I’m always wondering what the reader might be wondering, and what questions crop up or substitutions they’d like or need to make. I hope to give enough tips for flexibility and variety for folks. So, thanks for noticing that. If, after you’ve had more time experimenting with LTEV, you’d like to share a few words (even what you said here) on amazon, I would greatly appreciate it. I have a feeling my book is going to take some knocks for having nuts in the recipes which can make them higher-fat. Having lots of ‘happy’ reviews helps represent what the book is really about – wholesome plant-powered recipes with a good balance of nutrition.
hmmm, I’ve gone on to ramble (not uncommon for me, lol)! Many thanks for that sentiment.

Dreena says
Thank you Charo, and that’s sweet of you to say. Hope you enjoy LTEV!

I’m with Connie. I’m on my 2nd loaf in 4 days. First we had it hot with potatoes and peas, then we had it sliced on salsa tortillas with lettuce and tomatillo salsa, then we had it cold on bagels with…..(dare I confess to my non-vegan decision)….you-know-what.
Now as to the new edition, did I read correctly that this has to do with mislabeled allergens (ie spelt- read the Amazon comment)? I ordered the Kindle version. Is anything else changed? I’ll probably order a paper copy, but wanted to know whether I should wait for the new one or order an older copy.
Dreena says
Donna, you had me giggling with this note! It’s super fun to read people making it over and over already! And, I really like your idea of having it with tortillas and salsa!!!
Now, I cringe to tell you that I think your kindle version is the first printing. You will see such at the beginning if it says “march 13th”. I’m speechless as to how this happened, b/c this was supposed to be pulled last month. It’s out of my hands and I’m not pleased with how this has played out. But I will tell you that I will get the proper kindle version to you. Just please follow up with me in about a week so I can remember to do so. I don’t think there are too many of you that have ordered it via kindle, but I don’t want to forget about it, and right now I’m putting out fires with this and am a bit overwhelmed. :-/ So, that’s the situation and we’ll get it fixed for you soon. Thanks!

I just bought your book based on the recipe that Susan at Fat Free Vegan posted..your FABULOUS lentil loaf..and I do mean F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!!!! Is that all…just some mislabelled allergen listings? If the rest of the recipes are as good…I will have died and gone to heaven!!!
(I made one loaf day before yesterday, and I have another in the oven right now.)
Dreena says
T-H-A-N-K-S Connie!! π That’s most awesome to hear, so pleased. π Yes, the first printing had errors with the labels. Here is the list of errata for you: http://cookingwithdreena.blogspot.ca/2012/04/let-them-eat-vegan-errata-first.html
I appreciate the kind feedback – and I’d like to put good word in that the recipes are all just as good. I’m just a wee bit biased, mind you. π
Emily says
Hi Dreena, I love your previous cookbooks and am looking forward to getting this one. I tried to order it from Amazon, but it looks like they’re not set up to sell the new printing yet — the book is only available through third parties, which I’m assuming are selling the original printing. Do you know when the new version will be listed? Thanks!
Dreena says
Hi Emily. Really sorry for the amazon hiccup. We have our amazon rep on it, just hoping they fix it asap – like as I’m typing!!! Will let you know on fb/twitter when it’s fixed. Thanks!
Jamie says
Hello! Do you have a link as to where we can pre order? I keep finding the older edition on Amazon, but not a pre order option for the May release.
Thank you.
Jamie
Dreena says
Jamie, we are working out that glitch with amazon right now. Hopefully should be straightened out very soon, will post on fb/twitter when it is. Thank you!
Catherine says
Hi Dreena, I just wanted to let you know that last night I made your Jerk Chickpea recipe that Angela of Oh She Glows posted in her review. It was wonderful! My husband is a long-time lover of jerk chicken, and I was so excited to make a plant-based version of one of his favorites. In my opinion, it was just the right amount of spiciness! Thank you. I look forward to buying the cookbook.
Dreena says
Oh yay, yay, yay!!!! Thanks for that feedback Catherine. I have never had an authentic jerk dish, vegan or not, so to know that you loved it with the experience of having a jerk dish before – just wonderful to hear. π Thank you for sharing that note, hope you enjoy more! Happy cooking!!
Sarah L. says
I also made your Jerk Chickpeas thanks to Angela’s post. It was FANTASTIC, spicy and ridiculously tasty! My mouth was watering even before I put it in the oven. Thank you so much for sharing!
Dreena says
Thank you Sarah!! Did you have avocado with it too? (that sends me over the edge!) Thanks for the note. π
Christine says
Hi Dreena! I have a first copy of the book. What would be the reason to exchange it for the new printing? Please let me know how to do it so I can decide. The book is great though, congratulations!
Dreena says
Hi Christine, the new printing was issued because the first print run had a series of mislabelled allergen listings. Here is the post that has the link to the errata. http://vivelevegan.blogspot.ca/2012/04/update-let-them-eat-vegan-release-date.html You can either make the changes in your current book, or have it exchanged out. If you’d like to do the exchange, pop me an e-mail! thx. π
