Dreena’s Kind Kitchen Cookbook has won 1st prize in the World’s First Vegan Cookbook Contest!
I’m so excited to share this news with you. My 6th, and most recent cookbook, Dreena’s Kind Kitchen has been awarded first prize in the world’s first vegan cookbook contest through the International Vegan Film Festival.
This is such an honor, especially given the depth of talent in the cookbook entries. I’m very grateful – and excited!
This is the first vegan cookbook contest, and it was hosted and judged through the International Vegan Film Festival.
Dreena’s Kind Kitchen was awarded first prize, with second prize given to Liv B’s Easy Everyday by Olivia Biermann and third prize to Fast Easy Cheap Vegan by Sam Turnbull. I’m very grateful to the International Vegan Film Festival for hosting this contest and highlighting so many exceptional vegan cookbooks.
There were so many talented and popular plant-based authors and chefs in this category, I’m very honored to have won. I’ve been developing recipes for over 20 years, this is such a thrill!
Dreena’s Kind Kitchen Cookbook
Receiving this award has me reflecting on the past few years of development with this cookbook. I thank my publisher, BenBella Books for creating an aesthetically-pleasing, and well-organized cookbook. I thank my testers who helped me fine tune and shape the recipes in this book. And, I thank my photographer, Angela MacNeil, for bringing the food photography to this book. One of the judges remarked “The pictures were simple and accurate.” I feel that’s very important to home cooks, to create food that looks like the photographs in a book. Angela, you did a beautiful job, thank you. And, I’m thankful for all of you that have supported the book and my work over the years. And of course I thank my husband and children for always loving the work I do as much as I do!
You can learn more about the awarded books and films here. And, if you don’t yet have a copy of Dreena’s Kind Kitchen, hop over to my cookbook page to pick up a copy for yourself or for a holiday gift.

Good to know and congratulations Dreena! Glad to see a cutting edge book heading the list, ie., no oil, limited salt and sugar, and limited processing. This is good news for the health movement! The whole food, plant based focus is gaining ground and we have never needed it more! Good work, great recipes, you save me on a regular basis as I cook for others! You are a trusted resource!!!
